How much sun does Ohio get anyway? Is solar worth the investment?

Fountain Point Solar Facility will be located in the small Village of West Mansfield and the surrounding area outside Bellefontaine. The closest city is Columbus, Ohio which is about 40-50 miles away. In order to calculate how many days the sun shines in any given year you have to understand a few definitions.

Sunny days are when the sky is mostly clear. This includes the days when cloud covers up to 30% of the sky during daylight hours.

Partly sunny days have cloud covering from 40% to 70% of the sky during the daytime.

Now that you have your definitions, let's look at the total amount of sun we get in this area. The number of sunny days comes to 72 and partly sunny days amounts to an average of 103 which brings our grand total to 175 days out of 365 days of sunshine.

It really begs the question, why would you want to build solar panels in a state that offers an average 175 days of sunshine in any given year.
